Age Restricted Items
This feature might already be in the system somewhere, but I can't seem to find it ...
I am currently doing a trial of the system which, if I'm happy, I'll buy and implement in an Off Licence. It would be very helpful if I could program certain items (Cigarettes, Alcohol) so that, when they are scanned/input in POS mode, a 'Warning Message' would come up saying something to the effect of "Does the Customer Look Over 25?" (I would also need to be able to program it so that with alcohol, the message would be as above, but also say ... and appear sober?). The following process would be what I would want.
Customer attempts to buy Cigarettes. Warning message:
"Does the customer appear over 25?"
Cashier clicks Yes - sale continues as normal.
Cashier clicks No - another warning message:
"Check ID"
Cashier clicks Yes - another warning message:
"Is the customer over 18?" (Maybe the system could be programmed so that it would show the Date of Birth of today's 18 Year Olds? Then the message would say "Was the customer born on or after ... ?")
Cashier clicks Yes - sale continues as normal.
Cashier clicks No - sale cancelled - warning message tells cashier to refuse the sale.
The above process should be amendable so that with alcohol, the additional question of "Does the customer appear drunk?" Would be added after the age verification process, with a refusal prompted if the cashier clicked 'Yes'.
The age should also be amendable, so instead of 18, 16 for lottery tickets for example.
It would also be helpful if this process could be linked to a refusals log, so for example if the cashier refuses to sell cigarettes because a young person was unable to present valid ID, a log would be made saying: "Date, Time, Type of product (cigarettes in this case), reason for refusal (No ID).
