Decimal Places

Richard

Probably asked for something similar in the past but this time by way of an example. In my business we sell a mixture of service and product (Printing) in relatively large numbers 000's and fairly often the selling price is determined before or almost irrespective of the costs. Example 20,000 printed sheets will cost the customer £520.00. For hopefully obvious reasons we can't have a product for every eventuality so we tend to have more than a few generic 'products' to cover such eg Printing,

So, select 'Printing' as the 'Product' 20,000 is the quantity but it's currently impossible to achieve the selling price £520.00 because we only have two decimal places and even they are rounded up to one place. That perhaps explains why we get differing VAT figures as well?

Re: Decimal Places

Hi Peter,

Easify calculates VAT per item and totals it at the end. So the VAT per item will be rounded to 2 decimal places at each step, this has a greater affect on products with a low sale price as you have experienced. We have chosen to do it this way so that VAT is consistent across the whole programme (something HMRC likes ).

We are looking into providing an option for allowing VAT to be calculated on the total of an order rather than at the individual product level, but this has to be done very carefully and will take a long while to get right for a production quality update.

For the mean time it'd recommend you keep with your current method of generic products.

Hi John

Good try... the VAT can perhaps remain on the back-burner. The real issue is the bespoke product, namely 20,000 items totalling £520.00. Try as you might it can't be entered so we end up with a quantity of 1 (so that we can enter £520.00) and then need to use the Comments line to explain how many we really supplied which isn't really satisfactory. It would be useful if we could enter the Total and have Easify do the maths in the background to complete Price Ea? That's the way Quickbooks does it - hopefully no need to cross your arms? QB also calculates VAT on a line by line basis.

Re: Decimal Places

Hi Peter,

I don't know if it helps, but you can enter the price ea. for a line item in the order details to be 4dps though it only displays 2.

Good idea to have the total price editable to back calculate the price ea. But we would need to do quite a bit of evaluation to determine whether this would work. TBH it would be a modification that would either work perfectly after 30 minutes of coding, or it would take weeks to get it right.

Will add the ability to edit line total as a feature request and we will have a look to see how doable it is. As always no promises, but we're starting to work through the feature requests (hundreds of them   ) so ought to have an update soon.

Thanks for the comments - without wishing to beat you up on this Richard or bore the pants off the others, the fact is that even if it does accept 4dp it doesn't work to that. The example I gave 20,000 peices to total £520 works out at 2.6p per piece. Enter 20,000 in 'Qty' column, then 0.026 in the 'Price Ea.' and it gives you £600.00 'Total' Q.E.D

Ok, looks like a recent update has prevented the ability to override proces to 4dps in the product details. Will investigate it.

Richard - a timely reminder perhaps? Just tried to add 10,600 labels at a unit cost of 2p. The line won't accept 3 decimal places at all - it returms 00.00

Peter, I sent you an email about your specific scenario in January - did you not receive it?

Hi Richard

Thanks for alerting me to this, seems that I did miss it although in my defence I was in the States at the time.

The VAT scenario is a neat solution and will work OK for us.

However, there’s always a ‘but’ of course, that is not the issue at the moment it’s far simpler than that. Nothing to do with VAT as such, take any line item. irrespective of the VAT and put 2p (0.002) in as the unit price and 10,600 as the quantity and the Total returns zero? The issue is the one of decimal places, Unit Price is still limited to 2 places.

Re: Decimal Places

Peter, as I mentioned in my email we need to get you the code that allows you to do per invoice VAT as trying to do 10,600 x 2p with VAT amounts is going to cause VAT rounding using a retail VAT model.
