Barclaycard Safemaker reporting problems with local Easify Server

My card machine lives on the local network alongside my Easify server and payments are processed by Barclaycard. Barclaycard have a scheme called SafeMaker where they make you do a 3-monthly network scan provided by Sysnet to look for PCI compliance issues . The latest scan has reported 13 issues which all/mostly relate to port 443 which is the Easify server listening port. Here are some of the reported issues:

...

It seems that they aren't happy with software with remote access running on the same network as the card machine. I can get around this by attesting that the software is 'securely implemented' (Is it? I don't know!)

I'm not sure whether the Easify software was installed when I last ran the scan or whether this is a new issue. Just wondered whether anyone had any experience with this or advice on passing the Safemaker hurdles.

Hi Adrian,

I've edited out the specifics of your network scan for security reasons, we will check over the issues raised and get back to you regarding this specific case.

This is fairly typical of PCI-DSS network scans, they will flag problems with open ports on your router. Some PCI-DSS scans fail if you have remote management enabled on a router for example.

The best way to get around the issue if you have an internet connected card terminal is either to run it on its own internet line, or to have your Easify Server hosted by us in the cloud (which means you don't need to have any open ports at all).

In the meantime we will look more closely at your specific network scan and will get back to you ASAP.

Regards - Richard (Easify Developer)
