move easify database to cloud provider

Hi, I currently got a standard installation with client and database on the same PC. I want to move the database to my cloud provider. I was looking to run the installer and do a database install to the remote location, but this isn't available as an install option. What is the best way to go about this?

Re: move easify database to cloud provider

Easify isn't cloud based software by default.

We're looking into this option for a future update, although it won't be available for a while yet.

If you wish to access Easify over the internet it'd be best to investigate setting up a VPN connection.

This can be quite technical, therefore we advise you consult an IT professional if you'd like a VPN setup.

Here is a related forum article where accessing Easify remotely is discussed:

Re: move easify database to cloud provider

Hi John, thanks for the reply.

I don't have the hardware for a VPN, although Team Viewer might be an option.

The Easify help implies that it's possible to install the Easify database to a network location, is there any reason this location can't be in the cloud?

At the moment I can't see how to install the database to another location. My installer just goes ahead and installs SQL Express on my machine without giving me the option to specify where I want the database to live. How do I tell it to do otherwise?

Yes it can be done, although because it can be a very technical process to setup at the moment using existing networking technologies and techniques we do not provide free support for it.

There are several technical problems you'll run into when setting up the Microsoft SQL Server database, that Easify relies on, onto a computer system that is not directly connected to your local network, by for example via a VPN connection.

The main issue is the configuring of firewalls (hardware, such as your router, and software, such as security software) and setting up of port forwarding rules. Also to keep the communications safe over the internet, this ideally needs to be setup on a secure connection using encrypted security certificates.

The installation of the Microsoft SQL Server database needs to be performed locally on the server that is to host the database. If you have remote desktop access to a Windows based server, you can perform the installation that way.
