Making Tax Digital for VAT

Hello,

My accountants are asking me if I would be interested in changing over to a Quickbooks / Xero / Sage package in light of the VAT return changes that are planned to be implemented, see: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/making-tax-digital-reforms-affecting-businesses/making-tax-digital-for-vat-legislation-overview.

I currently us Easify for accounting purposes too but will no longer be able to with the proposed changes.

Is there any future plans to incorportate this into future versions of Easify or has anyone any experience in integrating Easify with a cloud based accounting system?

Any input welcome - thanks.

Anthony

Re: Making Tax Digital for VAT

Hi Anthony,

We are currently looking into implementing MTDfB in Easify and it is our intention to implement this later in 2018.

We will be posting more details about this as we go.

Re: Making Tax Digital for VAT

Some more information about Easify and MTDfB...

Information from the government about Making Tax Digital for Business is still quite sketchy and the exact shape in which it will manifest itself is still being determined.

The original government deadline for enforcing MTDfB has been moved and now the first requirement will be that as from April 2019 companies that are registered for UK VAT will be required to file their VAT returns using digital software.

We are currently working with HMRC to implement this within Easify and aim to include generation of VAT returns within Easify by Summer 2018. We will then aim to achieve acceptance with HMRC by the end of 2018 which will be in plenty of time for the April 2019 deadline for digital VAT submission.

It is anticipated that the move to full MTDfB will take place in or after 2020 by which time Easify will also support quarterly submission of income/expenditure to HMRC.

Hi Richard,

Just checking to see if there had been any further progress with this??

Apologies, my accountants are asking me for an update.

Thanks

Hi Andy,

I've had a chat with our Sage partners and the problem they have is that it is getting prohibitively expensive to integrate with Sage software. Aside from the costs Sage impose on the integration it seems Sage are constantly updating their APIs which means constant maintenance (and expense) to stay up to date with it.

Regarding MTD, HMRC have said that it is acceptable to transfer data from one digital system to another via exporting and 0importign data. So this would be the way to go with Sage. The data can be exported to CSV from Easify and imported into Sage from the CSV file. I'm afraid we can't help with the technicalities of importing to Sage as we don't use it here.

We don't have ay plans to implement integrations with 3rd party accounting applications in house (other than exporting data to CSV) because the Easify roadmap means we will be handling more and more accounting processes and we will be implementing support for MTD in the near future which will mean for many people that they will not need to run a separate accounting package.

HTH

Hi Paul,

Yes, we're currently working on the necessary modifications in order for Easify to fully support MTD.

We will be releasing a series of free upgrades over the next few months which will incorporate the required features.

The first will be a reconciliation feature that enables you to reconcile your accounts prior to generating a VAT return.

Next will be a modification to the invoicing system to allow split payments for both sales orders and purchase orders.

And the final update will be to incorporate the automatic generation of VAT returns and their submission to HMRC.

The first update should be available in about 4 weeks time, with the others following after that.

So in a nutshell, Easify will fully support the requirements of MTD that are being introduced next April with respect to automated submission of VAT returns.

Hi Paul,

Yes we've come quite a long way with the MTD code.

We've got an update coming out in the next week or so that incorporates some of the internal foundations that will be needed.

And we will be releasing a series of further updates leading up to full support of MTD for VAT by the April deadline. The first of the Easify MTD code that will allow you to start preparing your accounts in Easify for submission to HMRC is anticipated in February.

We are currently writing the documentation for the support of MTD in Easify and will be publishing that as soon as it's available, and as we go along.
